Estelle Hollowell

Enlisted July 17th, 1944 and was discharged on July 19th 1948. She re-enlisted in the US Navy shortly after her discharge and went on to attend boot camp at Hunter College (Regiment 41, Company 3, Section 11) Her Duty assignments included the US Navy Radio Station, Chatham, MA. Powder Factory, Indian Head, MD., Navy Barracks, Washington DC & Arlington, VA.

After achieving the rank of CS2 she transferred to USNTC Great Lakes for office duties. From Great Lakes she was transferred to the WAVE Recruit Training Commissary Office, Bainbridge, MD. While at Bainbridge Hughes also served as Master At Arms in the Recruit Mess Hall. She was discharged from active duty on May 19th 1954, but enlisted for reserve duty at USN Air Station, Glenview IL in April of 1956. Virginia served with squadrons VF722, & VF725 in an administrative capacity. She retired from service in 1976 with over 20 years of service. Her award jacket includes Good Conduct - Second Award, American Campaign, WWII 1941-1945 & National Defense.
