MUSIC

WHERE DO I GET THE MUSIC FOR THIS TRAINING?

All music is available through an invitation-only DropBox account. You are responsible for downloading/printing out ALL parts of music for your instrument and arranging them in clear pockets alphabetically in a 1.0-inch white binder. You will need a NSCC National Band binder cover. See below to make your own.

YOUR MUSIC BINDER

  • Purchase a white 1.0” binder, 3 ring, with clear insert on front

  • Print out your music binder cover and insert your name and instrument on bottom right corner.

(click here for music binder cover template)

MARCHING

Review the MANUAL OF INSTRUMENTS prior to the training. Practice the movements for your instrument.

YOUR MUSIC

You should have received an invite to join the Music Training Drop Box. If not, contact LCDR Jeffrey Dao at Jeff.Dao.nscc@gmail.com.

All NSCC National Band music is stored in the NSCC National Band Music folder on Dropbox. Having auditioned, you should already have one. If not, set up a free basic Dropbox account in order to access the sheet music

Based upon your musicality, at the training you will be assigned which part you will play.. For now, go to 'personnel tab' to see how many cadets are in your section. print this # of parts for your instrument.

For example, look for NSCC National Band Music->Due North. Open the Due North folder. If you play clarinet and there are only 2 calrinets, print Clarinet 1& 2only(if available). Place all sheets of music in clear plastic sleeves and arrange alphabetically by song title

Music Binder

  • Purchase a white 1”, 3 ring binder and a package of clear plastic sleeves for your music.

  • Print out concert band pieces for your instrument and place each page in a plastic sleeve

  • Arrange in alphabetical order

  • Bring this binder to training.

Flip Folder

Please bring a music lyre and flip folder loaded with designated music: For this training, you will need to load ANCHORS AWEIGH & NAVAL SEA CADET MARCH

You should have:

  • A lyre specifically fitted to your instrument. ONLY buy a lyre that is designated for your specific instrument.

  • The plastic backing that clips to the lyre (unless you have a combined backing/lyre design)

  • 2 clip rings

  • at least 12 flip-folder sized plastic sheets for holding music. The preferred sheets are enclosed on 3 sides. If you don't have those, tape over or paper-clip shut the exposed sides.

Note: you may want to tape the gap in the clip rings, if there is any gap in
them (use painter's tape)

• Rubber bands or clothespins to keep the sheets still in the wind.

  • Some pieces, (ex/ Anchors Aweigh) are already uploaded and sized correctly for your flip folders.

  • Look in:NSCC Nat’l Band Music -> [Name of Piece] -> [instrument]

  • Print the part on a regular 8.5x11 piece of paper, then trim to fit. Place into your flip folder sheets in alpha order.

  • Always use the "Print Preview" feature of your printer driver before printing to make sure the piece is the correct size and orientation for your printer, because every printer is different.

  • Professional HINT: Tape a penny or two on the back of the plastic sleeve to weigh it down. so it doesn't flip back at you in a wind gust, because it will!

YOUR GIG BAG

You are being trained as professional musicians and will be traveling to performances where ANYTHING can and WILL happen. Be Prepared. You will be issued a plain black back pack to be used as your gig bag for rehearsals and performances.
