On CNBC, XFL owner Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced that the XFL is getting new teams, cities and broadcast partners and they will be announced in about a month, around the same time that the USFL will be dropping their big news. The spring football landscape just got interesting.
We aren't exactly sure what to make of this, but we know that it is going to be a very wild and exciting time for spring football in January. The USFL is slated to drop lots of news, but we don't know exactly what will be revealed. Coaches? Jerseys? Draft information? We don't know. But on the other side with the XFL, we know that there will be new teams and new cities along with new broadcast partners.
Existing XFL teams could be moving, we could get entirely new teams and cities with new names and branding, there's a possibility that the entire league's set of teams will have new, shiny coats of paint.
Broadcast partners is another important piece of the puzzle for the XFL, however. The USFL is currently dominating that area, already claiming FOX/FS1 and NBC off of the market. That leaves ABC, ESPN, CBS, NFL Network and a few other networks for the XFL to broadcast their games on. I feel like the XFL would put their games on ESPN again, like they did last year.
