On "The Heard with Colin Cowheard", Colin Cowheard announced the names of all eight of the USFL teams that will return to play in 2022.
The teams will be split up in the Northern Division and the Southern Division, with the Northern Division teams being the Michigan Panthers, New Jersey Generals, Philadelphia Stars, and the Pittsburgh Maulers. The Southern Division will be the division that the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, New Orleans Breakers and Tampa Bay Bandits reside in.
Each team does have a city/state attached to its name, however the teams will not play in these specific markets. To keep travel costs down, the 2022 USFL season will be a bubble season with all games played in Birmingham, Alabama. Games will be played at both the new Protective Stadium and Legion Field, both in the same general area. Most of the USFL games will be played at the newer Protective Stadium, with only 6 being played at the larger but older Legion Field.
Not all eight teams are staying in the same cities that they were originally in, though. In 1983, the Breakers were located in Boston, and in 1985 the Stars moved from Philadelphia and became the Baltimore Stars.
