The write-on competition is a cooperative effort between ILJ, JCEL, and the San Diego Law Review that enables interested students to apply to all journals at the same time.
The competition will involve an editing assignment, rather than a traditional brief assignment. The assignment will consist of two parts:
(1) above the line and below the line editing of a piece of legal writing; and
(2) evaluation of support for legal contentions.
Grading of the write-on competition is completely anonymous, and selection onto an academic journal is entirely merit-based.
All competitors must do their own work and shall not confer with other competitors about the write-on problem. Competitors are also prohibited from using the assistance of AI. The write-on is a closed universe competition. No outside research or assistance is allowed or necessary. Cooperative efforts and use of AI will be deemed honor code violations and will be reported as such. Any use of outside resources will lead to automatic disqualification from the write-on and will be reported.
