Choose a fun new place to work today, like outside.
Choose a story about being a good citizen to read to/with an adult (such as The Little Engine That Could, or The Little Red Hen).
Discuss what it means to be a good citizen and how you can be a good citizen in your community. Take a walk and find examples of being a good citizen.

Lesson (12 minutes)-
Introduce the long i sound. Show student the word bit and have them say it, then the word bite and have them say that. Discuss how the i sound changes from short i (like in igloo) to long i (says its name). Repeat for fin/fine, tin/tine, and Tim/time. Discuss how sometimes the long i sound is spelled differently, like in high, but right now we’re focusing on words spelled with i_e.
Have students practice writing long i words.
Play “Get The Banana”. Try playing this in a fun new place!

Read a story with your child that involves making a type of food. (Example: The Little Red Hen)
Have your child explain to you how to make a sandwich (PB and J, Ham, Turkey, etc) and write exactly how they tell you to make it on activity page 2. When completed, make the sandwich exactly how your child told you to make it. (It will be fun for sure!) Discuss how important steps are when following directions, recipes, maps, etc.

Read a story together with your child such as “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”, “The Three Little Pigs”, “Little Red Riding Hood”, The Gingerbread Man”, or any book of your choosing.
Discuss what “Key Details and Main Idea” means and help your child complete the activity for the day.
