Instructions

Day 23:

Warm Up (4 minutes)-

• Read “We Can Play!”

• Talk about/read sight words has, play. Review high frequency words who, good, come, does, help, too

Lesson (12 minutes)-

• Choose a fun new place to work today, like outside.

• Choose a story about being a good citizen to read to/with an adult (such as The Little Engine That Could, or The Little Red Hen).

• Discuss what it means to be a good citizen and how you can be a good citizen in your community. Take a walk and find examples of being a good citizen.

Wrap Up (4 minutes)-

• • Choose an activity from the wrap up choice list 3 or reading choice board

Day 24:

Warm Up (4 minutes)-

• Read “We Can Play!”

• Talk about/read sight words has, play. Review high frequency words who, good, come, does, help, too.

Lesson (12 minutes)-

• Introduce the long i sound. Show student the word bit and have them say it, then the word bite and have them say that. Discuss how the i sound changes from short i (like in igloo) to long i (says its name). Repeat for fin/fine, tin/tine, and Tim/time. Discuss how sometimes the long i sound is spelled differently, like in high, but right now we’re focusing on words spelled with i_e.

• Have students practice writing long i words.

• Play “Get The Banana”. Try playing this in a fun new place!

Day 25:

Warm Up (4 minutes)-

• Read “We Can Play!”

• Talk about/read sight words has, play. Review high frequency words who, good, come, does, help, too.

Lesson (12 minutes)-

• Build sight words and long i words out of materials around the house (playdoh, legos, buttons, etc). Use the long i word building page as a guide.

• Play “Roll A Long Vowel-a & i”. Try playing this somewhere different!

Wrap Up (4 minutes)-

• Choose an activity from the wrap up choice list 3 or reading choice board

Day 26:

Warm Up (4 minutes)-

• Read “We Can Play!”

• Talk about/read sight words has, play. Review high frequency words who, good, come, does, help, too.

Lesson (12 minutes)-

• Choose a writing prompt from the choice board and write a story. We challenge you to include the 2 sight words from this week (help & too) as well as 3 long i words with the i_e pattern. Use paper from your science journal or from home.

• Play “Four In A Row” if time allows.

Wrap Up (4 minutes)-

• Choose an activity from the wrap up choice list 3 or reading choice board

Day 27:

Warm Up (4 minutes)-

• Read “We Can Play!”

• Talk about/read sight words has, play. Review high frequency words who, good, come, does, help, too

Lesson (12 minutes)-

• Choose one of the long vowel games from this week and play it. Try playing it outside!

• Choose a sight word activity from the choice board and complete it.

Wrap Up (4 minutes)-

• Choose an activity from the wrap up choice list 3 or reading choice board

Day 28:

Warm Up (4 minutes)-

• Read “Look at This!

• Review high frequency sight words: where, look, who, good, come, does, help, too, play, has

Lesson (12 minutes)-

• Read a story with your child that involves making a type of food. (Example: The Little Red Hen)

• Have your child explain to you how to make a sandwich (PB and J, Ham, Turkey, etc) and write exactly how they tell you to make it on activity page 2. When completed, make the sandwich exactly how your child told you to make it. (It will be fun for sure!) Discuss how important steps are when following directions, recipes, maps, etc.

Day 29:

Warm Up (4 minutes)-

• Read “Look at This!”

• Review high frequency sight words: where, look, who, good, come, does, help, too, play, has

Lesson (12 minutes)-

• Review long vowel sounds for all vowels

• Complete long vowel activity pages for long o, long e, long u, and also the mixed long vowel activity

• If time permits, have students name or write words that have long vowels in them.

Wrap Up (4 minutes)-

• Choose an activity from the reading wrap-up list 3

Day 30:

Warm Up (4 minutes)-

• Read “Look at This!”

• Review high frequency sight words: where, look, who, good, come, does, help, too, play, has

Lesson (12 minutes)-

• Use letter cards to create each high frequency sight word

• Complete high frequency word activity page

• Complete writing page Story It! using at least 2 high frequency sight words.

• If time allows, complete the writing page Write It! using at least 2 high frequency sight words.

Wrap Up (4 minutes)-

• Choose an activity from the reading wrap-up list 3

Day 31:

Warm Up (4 minutes)-

• Read “Look at This!”

• Review high frequency sight words: where, look, who, good, come, does, help, too, play, has

Lesson (12 minutes)-

• Comprehension skill: Key Details and Main Idea

  • Read a story together with your child such as “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”, “The Three Little Pigs”, “Little Red Riding Hood”, The Gingerbread Man”, or any book of your choosing.

  • Discuss what “Key Details and Main Idea” means and help your child complete the activity for the day.

• Complete page 35
