If you have Internet, research earthquakes and write a newspaper article about an earthquake that occurred in California.

If you have Internet, research the West Region’s landforms and draw pictures of the landforms in your Social Studies notebook or piece of paper.
Activity for Region Region – Gold Rush Passage & Write a Movie Script - pg. 67
First, read the Gold Rush Passage. Then use the Write a Movie Script worksheet to brainstorm for your moive. Finally, draft your movie script in your notbook or on paper.
Optional- Using technology you could actually film your movie using iMovie on an iPad or phone (or similar app.)
If you have internet, feel free to research more about the gold rush.You can ask your family to perform the script with you!
Today you are going to come up with your own questions for an interview. You can look over the brochure (attached) which you will complete on days 3&4 and use it to guide your questions.
Suggested Questions:
What are the seasons like in your state? What products are manufactured in your state?
What body of water could a tourist visit
in your state?
What would be the best way to travel there from Kansas?
Think of who you are going to interview – family or friends. If possible, try to think of more than one person from the state. Remember to ask your parents before making any attempts to interview.
Interview a family member or friend from another state or Kansas if you cannot reach someone in another state. You are going to ask them questions about their state to gather information for your brochure.
Example: Call Grandma in North Carolina and ask about her state.
Tips/Ideas - Optional: Try to gather as much information as you can. If possible, interview someone from a state you have background information on.
Complete the front side of state brochure (All About/Name)
Use your best handwriting and make sure you are using proper nouns and spelling words correctly.
Optional- Use reliable internet sources, an encyclopedia, or GoEpic.com to find information on your state. You also have resources available to you on USD383.org.
Complete back side of brochure (Facts)
If you are unable to gather information due to lack of resources, you can do your report on what we have previously learned about Kansas in school.
Presentation---After you have completed your State Brochure, present it to a family member or record it and send it to your teacher.
Optional- Have a parent post your video to your classroom app or social media. You could also Face Time the person you interviewed on Day 1 and present to them.
