2023 Operation

⚠ Keep the servo slow!

We've seen several failures of servos in 2023 that may be associated with setting the servo to tilt up and down very quickly. When this happens, it will usually stop the scarecrow entirely. So, please ensure that your scarecrow's servo is set to move slowly.

If your scarecrow is running normally, turn on the top push-button switch on the control panel, then move the right slider all the way up (so it knows you're changing it) and then all the way down. Then turn the push-button back off so it will save the settings. This should change only the servo speed, leaving other settings as they are. (See section 8.2.2.2 in the 2023 Operating Manual.)

If your scarecrow is not currently running (perhaps in storage until next season), you can set the jumper on the main board to enter self-test mode the next time it does have power. All the settings will be reset after self-test's pre-laser warning as the motor and servo begin to move. If convenient/possible, connecting it to power so it can do this reset would be good. You can just turn it off once the movement begins. (See section 5 in the 2023 Operating Manual, particularly 5.1.2 which has a diagram of how to set the jumper.)
