Urban Design Adventures 2023

My name is Megan Haller and I am a junior at UCBA studying psychology. I am really interested in the small things that we can do for the sustainability of our environment. As we were driving I started applying this idea to the differences I observed. I am looking forward to doing more of that as my personal knowledge grows. Currently some observations and questions I have are:

1. Does the mix of materials used to hold nature from the highway reduce maintenance? (i.e metal, concrete, and wood) 

2. Do they sell more small cars than others? More than America? What are their public transportation rates compared to using cars and/or NYC.       

3. Why are their lines in the crop fields? Is it water distribution? Or does it just make sure they are not run over. 

4.  What were peoples reactions to the increased sustainability (i.e. paper straws, hand dryers, etc.) ?

5.  Are all parks designed sustainably? Should there be a more mindful use of space (i.e stacked flower gardens for pollinators, wooded areas marketed or labeled as hiking areas)? 

6. Pre-bike tour, is there a more economical way to get around for those who may be physically unable. Would golf carts be another eco friendly idea we could explore it seems to possibly be a comfortable next step away from the comfort of cars.
