The University of Papua New Guinea Tourism Convention is an annual event organized and hosted by the third-year students of the Tourism and Hospitality Management Division of the School of Business & Public Policy as part of their academic assessment. The event is derived from the course Convention & Events Management whereby students registered for the course in their year three (3) studies are required to stage Tourism Convention where they will be assessed based on the overall output of the event which will form part of the external assessment equivalent to 50 percent of the total grade.
This year 2022 will be the 16th Tourism Convention since its inception in 2007.
The 16th UPNG Tourism Convention will be a three-fold event which will be held on two separate days at the University of Papua New Guinea's School of Business & Public Policy building where Professional Studies Students will stage Seminar on the 28th of September whilst Undergraduate Students will stage both Conference and Exhibitions on the 29th of September, 2022.
The theme for this year's Convention is "Rethinking and Reshaping Papua New Guinea Tourism Industry"
This year 2022 Convention will be an persistence event, after Tourism Industry has been hard hit by COVID-19 globally and domestically. Despite the difficulties cause by the pandemic we want to continue to rethink and rebuild an emergent tourism industry that might resemble on efficient financial earnest to the country. Many are hopeful that this wake-up call event is an opportunity to reshape tourism into a model that is more sustainable, inclusive and caring of the many stakeholders that rely on it.
Hence, the event will create an avenue to exchange knowledge and experiences which will aid in to determine the course of actions. However, the event will be an informative session and an opportunity to engage with stakeholders to discuss and address issues and challenges affecting tourism industry ahead of the COVID-19 Pandemic thus explore new tourism investment opportunities in PNG.
