Note: Nov 28th is the last day of the NCEA exam season and the Friday of week 7 of term 4. Hopefully teachers around/near Auckland can arrange cover if needed and attend.
We have now reached 190 folk registered to attend 2025's physics teacher day! As the maximum allowed for this year's venue at AUT is 190 the registration form for this event has been removed.
If you have yet to register and REALLY wanna come - email Dave Thrasher @ david.thrasher@stcuthberts.school.nz
Include the following:
your name,
your school,
a detailed list of who from your school wants to come including full names and emails for each,
what dietary requirements each of those folk have
if any want to present anything in the sharing session
Within a day or so Dave will reply to you whether or not there is still room for you to join the masses and attend the day.
Important notes for planned parts of the day:
Be aware, if multiple teachers are attending from 1 school only a single registration form is needed. So have a chat with your workmates before registering, if you're lucky enough to have physics-teaching workmates!
The day's schedule is still being worked on.
At this point in time, our planned programme for the day includes:
Keynote: Professor John Carter: soon to be Deputy Head of School: AUT Engineering
Also info about AUT's Engineering Department: Mechatronics Lecturer Dr Daniel Konings
A possible session on info from the UoA Engineering Department &/or Physics Department
The traditional teacher-run sharing of ideas and Q&A
A session looking at whatever we know about NZ's rewritten science curriculum and/or the changes to NCEA.
A session discussing how Yr11 programs (including physics content/courses) currently happen and how those might change in 2028 and beyond in light of the proposed changes to NCEA.
If time allows, a discussion on any issues that arise from the Level 3, 2 or 1 external physics exams.
