PIRA Class: 1Q10.30
Purpose:
To demonstrate how the distribution of mass impacts moment of inertia and the speed acquired rolling down an incline.
Description:
A solid disc, ring, and sphere of similar masses and diameters are rolled down an incline in a race. The different moments of inertia result in different speeds.
The bins contain several objects of varying shapes and masses.
Equipment:
Various objects from the moment of inertia bins, wooden board for incline, ruler or scrap wood to release objects simultaneously, books to raise incline
Location:
Shelf 144, wood for the incline is in the back right corner of the demo room, books are available next to the desk in the demo room
