PIRA Class: 1N40.20
Purpose:
To demonstrate two-dimensional elastic collision.
Description:
Use pucks of different sizes for different masses (adding mass to the top of a puck does not work well). The puck with sticky tack around the edge works OK for inelastic collisions. The string around the outside of the table prevents pucks from escaping the table.
VARIATION: Use the hover pucks for a quick setup to demonstrate elastic collisions. The battery-powered pucks expel air from the bottom to provide frictionless-motion on tables or non-carpeted floors.
Equipment:
Air table and accessories, air pump, (Optional: hover pucks)
Location:
Shelf 132 (air table pucks + accessories), 521 (air pump), 133 (hover pucks). The air table is on the counter near the PHYS-104 door. New sticky tack is available in a drawer across from PHYS-102.
