Angle of Repose

PIRA Class: 1K20.35

Purpose:
To demonstrate how the force required to pull a block of wood up an incline varies with angle.

Description: 

1. Demonstrate that the force required to start the block moving is different when the board is flat vs when it is inclined.

2. Challenge students to determine the angle at which the block will begin to slide down the incline then test the result.

Equipment:
Friction box, spring scale, wooden plank, books to prop up end of plank, Optional: protractor
