PIRA Class: 1C20.20
Purpose:
To illustrate the quadratic relationship between displacement and time for constant acceleration.
Description:
One string has fishing weights at equally spaced intervals. The other string has fishing weights at increasing intervals (X, 3X, 5X, 7X, 9X).
Pick a string and hold it vertically so that the bottom weight is just above the pie pan. Drop the string and listen for the time between weights striking the pan. The second string should strike at equal time intervals.
NOTE: The strings can easily become tangled. Store each string carefully wrapped around a notecard and held in place with a paper clip to avoid tangles.
Equipment:
Strings with fishing weights attached, pie pan
