PIRA Class: 4F30.20
Purpose:Â
Steam engine is a device which converts heat energy into mechanical energy and heat is supplied into the engine through the medium of steam. This is a machine where steam is used as a working substance. Steam engine works on the principle of first law of thermodynamics where work and heat are mutually convertible.
Description:
Fill the top of the gauge glass port with water, making sure the steam valves are open and plug in the engine for 3-5 minutes. Close the valve on the top of the water reservoir and once steam begins shooting out of the exhaust port, turn the flywheel to start the engine. To show the action of the generator while performing electrical generation, use a large rubber band to connect the flywheel to the generator like a belt. Once the engine is running at a good speed, turn on the light bulb and observe.
