PIRA Class: 4E20.15
Purpose:Â
This is a straightforward demonstration of the inverse relationship between pressure (P) and volume (V) as dictated by the ideal gas law with temperature held constant in a closed system. As the volume of a syringe is increased, the audience can clearly see the pressure gauge values decrease. These values are recorded and a quick plot of P versus 1/V will reveal the predicted relation.
Description:
Use a tube to connect the opening of the syringe to the pressure gauge. Move the plunger on the syringe to change the volume which should result in an inverse change of the pressure reading.
Connect the end of the syringe to the pressure gauge with a tube. Changing the volume in the syringe by moving the plunger should result in a geometrically inverse change in the pressure reading on the gauge.
