Purpose: 

Observing the use of a bimetallic strip in a model of a thermostat.

Description:
Light a match and hold the flame underneath the curved portion of the thermostat until the red light comes on and the blue light goes off. Pouring distilled water over the curved portion will cool it down and turn the blue light back on.

Bimetal strip thermometer, distilled water, matches
