Purpose:  

Description: 

A large parallel plate capacitor is connected to an electroscope. When a 3000 V power supply is switched on and the leads brought to the plates, the capacitor will charge and the electroscope will deflect slightly. When the power supply is removed from the circuit and the plates are moved apart, the electroscope will deflect even more. Make sure the plates are extremely close but not touching at the beginning of the demo.
