UnPlug ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the UnPlug: Screen Time & Focus Android application ("App") handles your information.
UnPlug is a local utility app. All data is processed and stored directly on your device. We do not operate servers that store your personal data.
All data stays on your device:
App usage statistics — collected via Android's UsageStatsManager API. Shows which apps you used and for how long. Never transmitted to us.
Focus session history — stored locally in SharedPreferences. Never transmitted.
Streak and achievement data — stored locally. Never transmitted.
Blocking schedules and app limits — stored locally. Never transmitted.
Bedtime Guardian settings — stored locally. Never transmitted.
Focus Buddy contact info — stored locally on your device only. Messages are sent directly from your phone via WhatsApp or SMS. We never see, store, or process these messages.
PIN lock — stored locally in encrypted SharedPreferences. Never transmitted.
Data collected by third-party services we integrate:
Google AdMob — may collect your device advertising ID and usage data for ad personalization (free users only). See Google's Privacy Policy.
Google Play Billing — processes subscription and purchase transactions. We do not store or access your payment information.
UnPlug uses Android's Accessibility Service solely for:
Detecting when a blocked app is opened during Focus Mode and showing a redirect screen
Detecting continuous scrolling patterns for the Doom Scroll Detector feature
We do not read, record, or transmit:
Keystrokes or typed text
Passwords or credentials
Personal messages or content
Screen content from other apps
All accessibility processing occurs on-device in real time. No data is collected or stored via the Accessibility Service.
UnPlug requests the "Usage Access" permission (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) to show you screen time data. This permission allows us to read which apps you've used and for how long. This data:
Is read directly on your device
Is never uploaded to any server
Is never shared with third parties
Is used only to display your screen time reports within the app
UnPlug requests the "Display over other apps" permission (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) to show the app blocking overlay and the Doom Scroll intervention screen during Focus Mode. This permission is used only when you have an active Focus Session.
The free version of UnPlug shows ads powered by Google AdMob:
Banner ads — shown at the bottom of the screen
Interstitial ads — shown after focus sessions end and occasionally on app resume, per Google's ad frequency policies
Rewarded ads — optional ads you choose to watch to unlock features temporarily
App Open ads — shown once per day on cold launch
To opt out of personalized ads: device Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization
Upgrading to UnPlug Pro removes all ads permanently.

All payments are processed by Google Play. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment information. Purchase history is managed by your Google account.
Pro status is stored locally on your device to avoid requiring network verification on every launch.
When you use the Focus Buddy feature, you provide a contact's phone number. This number is:
Stored only on your device in local SharedPreferences
Never transmitted to our servers
Used only to send WhatsApp or SMS messages that you initiate
Messages are sent directly from your phone's WhatsApp or SMS app. UnPlug does not have access to your contacts list beyond what you manually enter.
UnPlug uses notifications to:
Show the active Focus Session timer in the status bar
Alert you when a focus session is complete
Remind you of bedtime when Bedtime Guardian is active
All notifications are generated locally on your device.
Since UnPlug stores all data locally and does not operate servers:
There is no server-side data that can be breached
App data is protected by Android's application sandbox
PIN lock settings are stored with app-level protection
Clearing app data or uninstalling removes all locally stored data
UnPlug is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used this app, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.
You have the right to:
Access your data — all data is on your device, viewable in the app
Delete your data — uninstall the app or clear app data in Android Settings
Opt out of personalized ads — via Android device settings
Revoke permissions — any permission can be revoked in Android Settings at any time
