If you want a complete set of six universal tie-down hooks to secure loose cargo on a vehicle without existing roof rails, choose UNLRAE 6PCS; if you need a precise replacement pair of keys specifically for Thule Code N142R locks, choose KEYSALACARTE Code N142R. These are two distinct tools serving completely different purposes in the world of automotive transport, yet both address the critical need for security and organization during travel. One solves the problem of having nothing to attach your gear to, while the other solves the nightmare of losing access to gear you already own. Understanding this fundamental split is the only way to avoid buying the wrong product for your specific situation.
• UNLRAE 6PCS: Offers a robust, six-piece solution for securing cargo on vehicles lacking factory racks using door-seal technology, though it requires manual installation and relies on friction rather than permanent mounting. Best for drivers who frequently haul oversized items like kayaks or camping gear on cars that do not have built-in crossbars.
• KEYSALACARTE Code N142R: Provides an exact, factory-matched pair of metal keys designed exclusively for Thule systems with the N142R code, ensuring immediate access without locksmith fees, but serves no purpose unless you already own compatible Thule hardware. Best for owners of Thule ski racks, cargo boxes, or carriers who have lost their original keys and need a reliable backup immediately.
The UNLRAE 6PCS set is engineered for the driver who needs flexibility where there is none. If you drive a sedan, coupe, or older SUV that lacks permanent roof racks, you cannot simply strap down a kayak or a heavy duffel bag without risking damage to your paint or losing your cargo mid-drive. This product fills that gap by utilizing a design that slips between the rubber sealing gasket and the steel frame of your car doors. The material composition is a blend of high-quality PP plastic and metal, which the manufacturer specifies as flexible and elastic. This combination is intended to prevent breakage under tension while maintaining a tight grip on the door seal without scratching the bodywork.
What makes this particular set stand out for city driving and weekend getaways is the quantity included. You receive six individual hooks, which provides ample redundancy and coverage. A single hook might hold a small bag, but securing a bulky load often requires multiple anchor points to distribute weight and prevent shifting. The package is explicitly marketed for four-door hardtop cars, suggesting that the geometry of the hooks is optimized for the door frames found on most standard passenger vehicles. This means you can secure luggage across the width of the vehicle, creating a stable platform for transport.
However, this solution is not for everyone. If you have a vehicle with factory-installed roof rails or crossbars, these hooks are unnecessary clutter. Furthermore, users must be comfortable with the installation process, which involves wedging the hooks into the door seals. While the data suggests this method avoids damaging the paint, it does require some physical effort to seat them correctly. If you are looking for a permanent, bolt-on solution, this is not it. But for the occasional hauler who wants to turn any car into a cargo carrier without drilling holes or buying expensive aftermarket rack systems, this kit offers a practical, non-destructive alternative. It is ideal for the driver who needs to move large items from point A to point B safely and doesn't want to invest in a full rack system just for one trip.

On the other side of the equation lies the KEYSALACARTE Code N142R, a product with a very narrow but vital scope. This is not a general accessory; it is a specialized component for a specific ecosystem of rooftop storage. If you own a Thule roof rack, ski carrier, or cargo box that uses the N001R through N200R key code series, and you have stamped "N142R" on your lock cylinder or original key, this is the only thing that will open it. The distinction here is absolute precision. The product description emphasizes that N142R is not the same as N142, 142, or 142R. Even a slight variation in the alphanumeric code renders the key useless. This level of specificity means the buyer must verify their code before purchasing, making it a targeted fix rather than a general upgrade.
The construction of these keys is built for durability in harsh environments. They are cut from the LF12 key blank (also known as Ilco S1771CR or Silca LF12), which are standard blanks used in professional locksmithing. The use of high-quality machinery ensures a precise fit, meaning the keys will slide into the lock smoothly without jamming—a common issue with cheaply made duplicates. The materials are chosen to withstand the elements, whether you are skiing in freezing snow or driving through summer rain. Since rooftop locks are exposed to constant weather exposure, rust and corrosion resistance are implied by the choice of materials and the "durable construction" claim.
This product is essential for anyone who has misplaced their Thule keys. Losing the key to a $300 cargo box or a $500 ski rack can be devastating, often leading people to buy entirely new locks or pay exorbitant fees to a locksmith to drill the cylinder out. With this replacement pair, you bypass those costs and hassles entirely. You simply find the code on your existing lock, match it to N142R, and receive a custom-cut pair. The package includes two keys, allowing you to keep one on your keyring for daily use and store the spare in a safe location. This is a peace-of-mind purchase for the owner of high-end Thule equipment who values reliability and wants to maintain full control over their gear without relying on third-party service providers.

In my opinion, the right choice depends entirely on what you are trying to achieve today. If you are preparing for a city driving scenario where you need to transport luggage on a car that lacks roof rails, the UNLRAE 6PCS is the clear winner. It transforms your vehicle's utility instantly without requiring permanent modifications. However, if you are the owner of a Thule system and have lost your keys, the KEYSALACARTE Code N142R is the only logical path forward. I would buy the UNLRAE set if I needed to haul a bike or a tent on a sedan, but I would grab the KEYSALACARTE keys the moment I realized I couldn't open my ski rack. Both products solve real problems, but they solve completely different ones.
The product is designed to be universal and suitable for most cars, SUVs, and jeeps, particularly four-door hardtops, by fitting between the door seal and frame without damaging paint.
No, the product is strictly cut to the N142R code. It will not work on codes like N142, 142, or 142R; you must match the stamp on your lock exactly.
The design claims to prevent damage by securing the hook between the rubber gasket and the steel frame, protecting the body paint from direct contact.
You receive a pair of two keys, both custom cut to the N142R specification on the LF12 key blank, allowing you to keep one as a spare.
