THE UNITED KINGDOM

The United Kingdom consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is the only country in the UK that is not located on the same island. The rest of the UK is an island called Great Britain. 

London is the capital of the UK, Great Britain and also England, the largest country. It is a modem city and a very popular tourist destination. There you can see the Big Ben, London Eye, red double decker buses... 

While most countries have presidents, Britain has got a king. His name is Charles III and he lives in Buckingham palace. 

The flag of the UK is called the Union Jack and the national anthem is God Save the King. The UK money is called the sterling pound. 

People in the UK often eat fish and chips and drink tea with milk.

The UK is famous for big cities like London, Edinburg, Manchester, Liverpool; the universities Oxford and Cambridge; sports like football, cricket and tennis; many music groups like The Beatles, Queen, The Rolling Stones and other famous people like William Shakespeare, Princess Diana, Isaac Newton, Winston Churchill, many famous kings and queen...

Wales is the smallest part of Great Britain. The capital is Cardiff. The Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales. The symbol of Wales is the daffodil or the leek. The patron saint is St David.

Northern Ireland is also called Ulster. It is the smallest part of the UK. The capital is Belfast. The Irish are very warm and friendly people. They love meeting in pubs where they often sing and dance. The symbol of Scotland is the shamrock. The patron saint is St Patrick.
