Christian Church Disciples of Christ
The multi-denominational United Church exists to glorify and serve God, to call people into relationship with God as a community of believers, to witness for Christ, and to work for the betterment of all people through Jesus Christ our Lord. The United Church congregation shall strive to give full expression to the rich diversity within its membership, and shall provide means which will assure a greater inclusiveness within its emerging life. Thus, the fellowship of Christians that gather to worship and order its corporate life will display a variety of form, practice, language, program, nurture, and service.
The multi-denominational United Church exists to glorify and serve God, to call people into relationship with God as a community of believers, to witness for Christ, and to work for the betterment of all people through Jesus Christ our Lord. As its people, we declare ourselves to be an Open and Affirming congregation. Therefore, we welcome into our community persons of every gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, mental and physical ability, age, race, nationality, economic and social status, faith background, marital standing and family structure. We invite them to share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments, responsibilities, blessings and joys of our congregation. We welcome people as they are, where they are in life, because in our experience this is how God welcomes us.
We are grateful to hear from wonderful speakers each week. Check our Facebook page to see who will be speaking this Sunday.
Amarante, a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Cedar City, has served as both an Elder and a Deacon. Originally from New Mexico, he attended Sterling College in Kansas and graduated from Westminster College in Salt Lake City. He and his wife, Rhonda, have lived in Kanarraville, Utah, for about 20 Years. He is a professional woodworker by trade.
Gail, a Quaker since 1981, has been active in the Society of Friends in Indiana, serving as a clerk and participating on various committees during yearly meetings. She has spent 37 years teaching students with disabilities and is currently the assistant director of special education at Fredonia Schools. After moving to Kanab in 2017, Gail is making it her permanent home and looks forward to retiring here with her two adopted dogs, out of 40 she has fostered.
As a former Pastor of the United Church of Kanab-Fredonia, Dean has a special connection to this community fellowship. As one who is curious about the essential nature of all religions, he believes there is an intimate relationship between spirituality and faith traditions, wherein religion serves as a language to locate and articulate one's spiritual experience within community. At a pragmatic level he feels that our religious and spiritual life requires and enables us to work for a more compassionate and just society where we care for not some, but all of life's manifestations.
“Never thought of it that way.” is often heard after Gail Padwick-Gates delivers a message. When not bribing the congregation with her Padwicked Preserves jams or nervously awaiting the off-off-off Broadway debut of “Reunions Can be Murder” at the Elks, she, Scott and her dog, Chloe, are hoping that her pre-med/culinary son, Cole, is making them cookies. Gail drives from St George to speak to our congregation.
