Mellow는 MIDI와 같은 전문적인 창작 기술이나 복잡한 음악 지식 없이도 누구나 자신의 취향에 맞춰 음악을 재구성할 수 있도록 돕는 ‘음악 청취 개인화 시스템’이다. 이 프로젝트는 기존의 알고리즘 기반 수동적 추천 방식과 전문가용 도구의 높은 진입장벽이라는 한계를 극복하기 위해 민지의 석사 연구 과정에서 디자인되었다. 사용자의 플레이리스트에서 추출한 사운드 요소를 대상 곡의 톤과 BPM에 맞게 자동 조정하여 음악 변형에 활용할 수 있도록 하였으며, FSR 센서와 LED 연동으로 사용자의 직관적인 물리적 제스처를 압력과 위치를 통해 인식하고 음악이 변형될 수 있도록 매핑했다. 실제 사용자는 실리콘 인터페이스 위 터치, 드래그, 스와이프 같은 간단한 동작을 통해 드럼이나 베이스 등 음악의 핵심 요소를 분해하고 재구성하며, 실시간으로 변화하는 음악과 라이트 인디케이팅을 경험한다. 결과적으로 MELLOW는 기술적 장벽을 허물어 일반 청취자를 단순 소비자가 아닌 자기표현의 주체로 확장하며, 누구나 음악 변형의 즐거움을 누릴 수 있는 새로운 문화로의 발전 가능성을 제시한다.

Mellow is a personalized music interaction system that allows anyone to reconfigure music to their taste without professional production skills like MIDI or complex musical knowledge. Designed during Minji’s Master’s research, the project addresses the limitations of passive, algorithm-based recommendations and the high entry barriers of professional tools. The system enables seamless music transformation by automatically adjusting sound elements extracted from a user’s playlist to match the tone and BPM of a target track. By integrating FSR sensors and LED synchronization, it maps intuitive physical gestures—detected through pressure and position—to real-time musical variations. On a tactile silicone interface, users can deconstruct and reconstruct core elements like drums or bass through simple touches, drags, and swipes, experiencing a seamless harmony of music and visual feedback. Ultimately, MELLOW dismantles technical barriers to transform listeners from mere consumers into agents of self-expression, presenting a new cultural possibility where the joy of musical creation is accessible to everyone.
