Dee's story

Objective

She drives through dawn, catches

the sun on the horizon, to-go

cup in hand, always solitary,

these moments to collect her

thoughts. Fills her vessel before

offering to others.

The warmth Is welcome before she

steps into the elements.

All seasons visit the three-hour

picket, dressed for all eventualities.

In righteous cloaks of solidarity.

She feels like a fraud, lauded

as helper on these days

of their docked pay but chases

intrusive thoughts away.

Her conditioning won’t help their

situation but her determination

will.
