Conclusion: The synthetic self-assembling peptide matrix was effective in the treatment of hard-to-heal wounds. Further studies are recommended to confirm the optimal application frequency for different wound types.

Conclusion: The acceleration of wound healing as a result of the surgeon's treatment strategy played a crucial role in avoiding a BKA. As this is a single case study design, the conclusions drawn are limited to this particular case. Treatment of other patients with this new wound system may provide better understanding and outcomes for diverse wounds prone to failure and breakdown.

Conclusion: Both patients were followed for 3 months with continued closure of the wounds. These case reports demonstrate good results with the use of the aSABS in conjunction with skin grafting in two different scenarios of wound bed preparation ahead of a graft. Additional larger or prospective studies may be helpful to further evaluate this technology in these applications.

Conclusion: Concomitant use of excisional debridement and treatment with AC5 markedly accelerated healing of this stalled wound, which had failed two months of standard therapy. The effect of AC5 may be attributed to the contiguous barrier it creates along the wound surface after debridement, in addition to its ability to promote cell adhesion, migration, and proliferation, which are essential for wound healing.

Conclusion: Concomitant use of debridement and the novel self-assembling peptide-based AC5 Advanced Wound System, which formed a clear conforming dressing over the wound surface, allowed for a more aggressive procedure with bleeding control in a low acuity clinic setting and without the need for thrombin or sutures. In addition, the nanofiber network appeared to cohesively seal the wound bed surface after debridement made the wound devoid of biofilm and senescent host cells. The resulting scaffold allowed for the adhesion, migration, and proliferation of healthy host cells and favorable wound healing outcomes.

Radiotherapy is a common cancer treatment, but often together with tumor cells, the surrounding normal tissues are damaged as well, which leads to the complications such as skin atrophy, soft tissue fibrosis, desquamation, epithelial ulceration which leads to poor healing of wounds. In this review, our main attention will be paid to the treatment of non-healing wound after radiation therapy. Irradiated wounds are often resistant to conventional treatment modalities and may often require surgical reconstructive intervention. The reconstructive options usually include skin grafts, local and regional flaps. Local flaps may be unreliable, since in some of the cases they are affected by irradiation. However, the complication rate with regional flaps is just as high as that with local flaps, and is not significantly different when analyzed according to the type of reconstructive procedure performed. In addition, such wounds affect not only the physical, but also the mental health of patients and their productivity. Therefore, non-healing wounds represent a significant problem for patients and remain a major challenge in modern medicine. Recently, for the healing of non-healing wound, several novel approaches have been proposed such as using the bone marrow stem cells (BMSC), biologically active dressings, bioengineered skin equivalents and others. Of special interest are bioactive membrane consisting of decellularized human amniotic membrane and BMSC paracrine factors, which may be effectively used for the treatment of non-healing wounds that have developed following the radiotherapy. Despite the positive results achieved in a number of cases, it is early to state that the all of the above methods is an ideal for the treatment of non-healing wounds, since it requires additional experimental and clinical studies for ascertaining positive and negative features.

When treating chronic wounds, doctors or nurses often remove dead or inflamed tissue. This is known as debridement. The tissue is removed using instruments such as tweezers, a sharp spoon-like instrument called a curette, or a scalpel. An enzyme-based gel is sometimes applied too, to help clean the wound.

The wound can also be cleaned using a high-pressure water jet. Another form of debridement involves the use of a certain species of maggots (fly larvae) that are specially bred for medical purposes. The maggots are placed on the wound, either as they are or in a pouch. They remove dead tissue and fluid from the wound.

Because debridement is often painful, a local anesthetic is used to numb the wound beforehand, for instance using an ointment. If more severe pain is expected, painkillers can also be taken before treatment. Larger wounds are sometimes cleaned under general anesthetic. There is not enough good research on the advantages and disadvantages of the various debridement techniques to be able to say how effective they are.

If poor blood circulation is what caused the chronic wound, then compression stockings or compression bandages can help it to heal faster. The pressure from the stockings and bandages helps the veins to carry blood back to the heart and improves circulation.

In hyperbaric oxygen therapy, the person with the wound goes into a special chamber to breathe in oxygen under high pressure. This is meant to increase the oxygen concentration in their blood and improve the blood supply to the wound area.

The pump continuously sucks fluid out of the wound, creating negative pressure across the surface of the wound. The aim is to increase the flow of blood to the wound. It helps keep the wound moist too, which is also meant to improve the healing process.

Pump systems are used in some hospitals to treat chronic or large open wounds, for example following skin grafts. But they can also be used at home. The negative pressure is either applied to the wound around the clock or at regular time intervals.

She mentioned that she could not reach Rands side wounds because the power was held away from it somehow. She thought it was a ward of Saidin. Could it be that the wounds now cant hurt him (much) further but they also keep saidar out, To what purpose i really cannot say.

It's doubtful that Nynaeve could do more than Flinn did as far as Healing the wounds. From what we've seen so far, Flinn probably has the strongest Healing short of Semirhage available in Randland. Nynaeve comes close, but she's not better.

And yes, the wounds are "stable" at the moment. Flinn's Wards have isolated the "evil" natures of the wounds so that, for now at least, they are feeding off of each other rather than attacking Rand's body.

I've just recently read the section where Rand is slashed with Padan Fain / Mat's Shadar Logoth dagger, and Flinn does what he can for him. I dont think he's intentionally protecting the wound from Saidin, I got the distinct impression that he was sealing it away from the rest of his body, to keep the... evil from the dagger from killing the rest of his body too. It was an internal sealing, rather than to protect it from anything external. But the answer is yes, it had the effect of being that no woman could touch the wound, as being saidin, it repels saidar. I think that's why when flinn has finished, Sumeko brushes past him and says "What did you do?" she touches Rand's side and her eyes widen, she says again "what did you do? You must tell me what you did" because she realises not only is Rand's body getting some respite for a while, but she cannot touch the wound with saidar.

I wonder if it would be possible for a circle of ashaman with Flinn controlling them to heal Rand's wounds... just figured with that amount of power it should make a difference... or somehow they could draw out the two evils out of his side... iunno just a thought

And idunno weather it really would make a difference, the signs seem to be telling us that Rand is supossed to have that wound so *shruggie* plus what'd you do with a big pustule of evil once you've drawn it out? As it stands they're mostly fighting eachother rather than Rand, so it isn't killing him.

I personally think that if Nynaeve and Flinn Linked, maybe with some others for strength in the power or an angreal, or the choedan kal then they might be able to heal most or at least more of the wounds.

Candida albicans is a common cause of opportunistic mycoses worldwide and a major contributor in wound infections. The purpose of this study was to establish a fungal wound model and analyze the effects of a common antifungal agent against the proliferation of three C. albicans strains. Second degree burns were created, and then inoculated with one of three different C. albicans ATCC strains: 10261 reference strain, 64550 fluconazole resistant and 26310 fluconazole sensitive. After fungal inoculation, every wound was covered with dressings for 4 h to allow fungal colonization on every wound bed. After 4 h, the dressings were removed, and each wound was treated either once or twice daily with a topical terbinafine hydrochloride or left untreated. On days 2, 4 and 7 post inoculation, three wounds from each treatment group were scrub cultured and quantified. On day 2, wounds infected with the sensitive strains 26310 and 10261 and treated twice showed a significant reduction when compared against those infected wounds receiving once daily treatment. On day 4, wounds which were infected with C. albicans fluconazole sensitive (ATCC 26310) showed a significant reduction in fungal cell counts with treatment applied twice daily. A significant reduction in the colony counts was exhibited in all three strains at the seventh day with active as compared to the non-treated wounds. Twice daily treatment resulted in a lower fungal count than once daily treatment. Neither treatment was able to entirely eradicate C. albicans during the duration of this study. Establishing a reliable fungal wound model will help in the translational goal of identifying new antifungal that could be used clinically by wound care providers. 2351a5e196
