It is currently recommended by several organizations to not apply for DACA without legal counsel, as this program has not been renewed and applying could “out” oneself for being an undocumented immigrant. Many DACA applicants have been unable to renew their status and could face deportation when their DACA status expires.
To qualify for DACA, applicants:
- Are under 30 years old
- Have arrived in the United States prior to 16th birthday
- Have lived continuously in the United States from June 15th, 2007, as well as been physically present in the United States since June 15th, 2012
- Are currently studying, graduated from high school or trade school, or have earned a GED
- Have not been convicted of a felony
- Have not had more than three misdemeanors
