Overview
Undisconnected is a local mesh walkie-talkie app that enables real-time push-to-talk voice communication between nearby devices without the internet. This app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to any server or third party. This policy explains what device features and permissions the app accesses and exactly why each is needed.
Permissions the App Uses and Why
Microphone The app accesses your device's microphone exclusively when you actively press and hold the Push-to-Talk button. Audio captured during this time is encoded using the Opus audio codec and transmitted in real-time directly to nearby devices on the same local mesh network. Audio is never recorded to storage, never uploaded to any server or cloud service, and is not retained in any form after transmission.
Device Name You choose a short display name during setup. This name is shared with nearby devices on the local network so others can identify your device. It is stored only on your device in local app preferences and is never transmitted to any external server.
Device Identifier The app generates a short random identifier on first launch to distinguish your device within the local mesh network. This identifier is stored locally on your device, is not linked to your personal identity, and is never transmitted to any external server.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi The app uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to discover nearby devices and establish direct peer-to-peer connections using Google Nearby Connections. These are used purely for local device discovery and communication. No internet connection is used or required.
Location Android requires location permission to be granted before an app can scan for nearby Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices. On Android 12 and below this is a hard requirement for any local device discovery. On Android 13 and above, the app additionally declares the NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES permission with the neverForLocation flag, which explicitly signals to Android that Wi-Fi scanning is not being used to derive your location. The app does not request, access, record, or use your physical location for any purpose whatsoever. Location data is never collected, stored, or transmitted.
Notifications The app displays a persistent notification while the communication service is running in the background. This notification shows connection status and provides quick access to Push-to-Talk controls. No notification content is transmitted externally.
Vibration The app uses haptic feedback to provide physical confirmation of push-to-talk events such as transmission start and stop. No data is collected through this.
Audio Settings The app requests permission to modify audio settings to manage audio routing — for example, directing audio output through a Bluetooth headset or earpiece during voice communication. This is used solely to control local audio hardware and no data is collected through this.

No other third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising SDKs are used.
