Joe Lumpkin was an enslaved person that was moved between George Hay's plantation Ashfield and James Monroe's plantation Oak Hill. He was not part of the group of people that was inventoried as part of Monroe's estate in 1836, but he does show up two years later in the transport document for the Isaac Franklin. Joe has not been located after 1838 in records in Louisiana. It is possible he passed away before the Civil War or he changed his name or moved out of Louisiana after the Civil War.
