Torchlight 3 is the latest action role playing video game from the award winning team of Stoic Studio. The game is a follow up on the hit game Torchlight: Heroes. In fact, it has much of the same elements as its predecessor but adds more depth and variety through the combat system and characters. I'll talk about the features of Torchlight 3 and compare it to its competition.
One major feature of Torchlight 3 is the introduction of a new skill system called Fortitude. This system improves every player's chances of dealing critical damage and healing during combat. At higher levels, players are awarded experience points (EXP) that can be used for acquiring new skills. Some skills have a limited number of uses, while others are free to use. At certain levels, the Fortitude skill grants special abilities that are helpful in fighting bosses or engaging in group tasks.
Another exciting feature of Torchlight 3 is the introduction of a new skill line-casting system called Command Skills. These skills are activated by clicking the keyboard and can be used to stun or kill opponents. For example, the "Marksmanship" skill is used to mark enemies for later identification or to cause additional damage to a target with a ranged attack. There are also "Flanking" and "Fpportune Strike" abilities that enable players to move in a sneak attack or engage in close combat while the enemy is confused or vulnerable. These Command Skills can be combined with other special abilities to create a powerful overall combination and playstyle.
A third feature that sets Torchlight 3 apart from other games is the introduction of a brand new class-specific skill tree called the Masterstone. This allows players to specialize their characters into complete classes, each with its own set of abilities that are vital in boss fights and during PvP encounters. In fact, each class has three unique skills that can inflict different types of damage and stun or injure multiple opponents at once. The damage and stun capabilities of the "Marksmanship" skill tree are especially useful against boss monsters such as the Hydra in the game. The final skill in this branch is the ability to throw a deadly meteoroid strike that will slow and immobilize opponents and is especially useful for taking down multiple opponents during the fight or puzzle phase of a PvP game.
A fourth feature that sets Torchlight 3 apart is the inclusion of an item-based skill system that utilizes relics to recharge various skills and abilities. For example, a player can activate a "Runesong" skill which enables him to communicate verbally with animals and plants. This skill is rechargeable using a relic called the "Runesong" and is available after a lengthy quest. This type of item-based skill system makes it easy for players to mix and match their character's skills and abilities based on individual preferences for gaming styles.
Finally, the fifth most important distinguishing factor between Torchlight 3 and its predecessors is the addition of all new Planes of Telara-based endgame system that puts players directly into a massively multiplayer online role playing environment. Players start off by earning the basic skills and abilities required to progress through the game's many maps and levels. After reaching a specific level (which increases each year), players can then choose to upgrade their character to a Railmaster, who has a number of unique abilities and advantages that make him a key player within the game's competitive arenas. Playing as a Railmaster gives players access to special items and weapons as well as the ability to earn and rack up accolades throughout the game's many online hubs.
