God Eaters is a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) where players take on the roll of Godslayer, a man who possesses the supernatural power of destroying enemies without touching them. If that seems like too much work, the developers have provided an optional "lite" version of the game for those looking for a simpler action-adventure. In God Eaters, you'll play the role of one of many unlikely heroes who seek to save the land from the armies of darkness. But what sort of hero will you become, and how will your story unfold? Will you save the day, or stand alone against all manner of evil?
One of the distinguishing features of God Eaters is that it utilizes the Unreal Engine to deliver a highly intense action experience. Using an open world concept, God Eaters lets you step into the middle of an unpredictable conflict and put up with the kinds of wild human interventions you'd expect to find in a horror movie. What sets this game apart, however, from similar titles is that the player is also allowed a bit of freedom in how he progresses through the game's plot. Rather than being locked into one story beat after another, God Eaters gives players the chance to branch out and choose their own path through the game's plot. This helps to immerse the player in a world that exists outside of his active engagement with the game's characters.
Monster Hunter: Conquer the World follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, God Eater. In God Eaters, players return to the world of God Eater and continue the game's narrative from the point that God Eaters, along with his allies, was obliterated by an army of demons. As you battle through waves of progressively difficult enemies, the player is tasked to find all the God Eaters scattered about the world. Along your journey, you'll encounter new allies and enemies, as well as many optional missions and endings.
Unlike God Eaters, God Breaker, and God Eater, the new entry does not utilize the Unreal Engine. Instead, it is powered by the newly-invented RPG idea of skill points, where you gain experience points (SP) based on your performance throughout each level of play. SP recharge over time, allowing you to increase your skills as you progress through the game. As you level up, your character is able to perform additional actions, further improving your ability to fight against the various monsters you'll come across as you seek to destroy the evil that threatens the world.
The story behind God Eaters revolves around an aging magician who is forced to retirement. With the help of his faithful butler and new friend, whom he assigns to you as his bodyguard, you find yourself trekking through town as part of God Eaters 3's third mission. You'll fight your way through the streets and alleyways of your hometown, seeking to destroy and scare away evil forces while saving the lives of your new friends. Some of the missions take you to areas featuring monsters that resembleGod Eaters from the previous entries in the God Eater series, while others pit you against some brand new characters. As you fight your way through the game, you'll be joined by some interesting characters, such as the evil Captain Jack Sparrow, the evil Thorton Greyback, and the crazy priestess Melfina.
Monster hunter games generally feel like a grind to me, as I always feel outplayed and underpowered as the game moves along. However, God Eaters feels like a much more involving game as you're allowed to use several weapons and abilities, allowing you to overcome some of the more difficult missions and bosses. In my opinion though, the best part of God Eaters is its fantastic animation and its amazing storyline. If you enjoy old-school monster hunting action, then you'll definitely have a great time with God Eaters 3.
