If you've checked all of the above and still find that you're unable to watch, you can contact BBC iPlayer Support via our web form. Please include the name of your internet service provider, and provide details on what steps you've tried to resolve the issue.

i have already made sure the iPlayer app is on my iPhone and is up to date, and I have added the channel to my Roku device. But I am still unable to cast to it, and the device does not appear in the cast menu for iPlayer (although it does for the other apps).

Unable To Download Bbc Iplayer

I have two of these, one bought from Tesco and the other from Amazon. Both units have the same issues with BBC iplayer as others have described - i.e. when I move and select a pink highlighted items in the iplayer menu, I am taken to the wrong item - usually the previous one on the list. Same thing for the programme selection - i.e. scrolling down and then selecting a pink highlighted programme will bring up the previous one. Also, searches are impossible - bringing up the search menu where you highlight letters doesn't work - only random letters are selectable; scrolling skips several in the list for no apparent reason. Same thing for channel selection - i.e. selection box doesn't move predictably over the BBC channel boxes, when one is highlighted (e.g. BBC two) and is selected, I am taken to BBC one. It's maddening and frustrating.

Any more news on this yet? It's driving me crazy - I efectively have a non-functional iplayer on both my BDP-S185's. Is it possible to roll back to earlier more stable firmware, and if so, how??? If not advised, when might a firmware release be forthcoming?

I have a Sony Bravia TV purchased from Currys in December 2018. It worked perfectly until a day ago, when for some reason BBCiplayer no longer works - the site can be accessed, but the programmes refuse to load up, with the message "something went wrong loading this programme". There is a similar problem with My5, although unfortunately it doesn't seem to affect the adverts.

This problem seems to have existed in the past with other correspondents, and I have tried all the previous remedies - un-plugging TV, internet, going through the initial set-up and restoring factory settings (twice) - but all to no avail. As there is no problem with the iplayer on our other TV (a Toshiba), the issue must be with the TV.

It appears that the problem is with YouView, which although able to show programmes on ITV Hub and Channel 4 catchup, for some reason has a problem with BBC iplayer and My5. I have consequently downloaded that latter two as separate apps which I can then access through the Home screen of my television, rather than going through YouView.

Meanwhile as a 72-year old customer who is not digitally savvy, I now have the choice of either to continue being unable to access the above mentioned programs or experience the delights of Sky who now guarantee broadband connection in every room of the house.

Hi @carrotmuseum @antikythera I think @BandOfBrothers was under the impression the issue was on a mobile device but pretty sure referring to TV. It would help if you provided your model number, unless older than 2014 should definitely be compatible with latest update. -cant-i-get-bbc-iplayer-on-my-samsung-smart-tv-sony-models-also-affect.... List of supported devices here and some go further back -devices/samsungĀ

If compatible the one thing you the one you have not mentioned is rebooting the router by unplugging from mains , know other streaming services are ok but worth a try. is there any difference with Beta version? Troubleshooting guide here: obviously you may need to contact the BBC and /or Samsung though.

in preparation for a trip abroad I downloaded quite a few BBC programmes for my son on our old (by Apple standards) iPad. Today we tried to access them only for the app to display an apology that iPlayer only works with iOS 7 and above. I'm now worried that all these videos are taking up memory space but are unable to be accessed or deleted since the app no longer works. Will removing the app remove the videos too?

Lets start here, last December 2012 I think, with Version 1.06.34 I lost youtube and got the lean back you tube and that has never worked properly (its was sooo slowww), I was unable to access my NAS drives and a whole load of other issues. But, on the only plus side we had iplayer.

For the last 24 hours I've been unable to download any programmes from the BBC. I can 'live stream' programmes, which indicates that my VPN is working normally but any programme that I try to download comes back with a message saying 'DRM License failed'

Unfortunately I too have begun having problems with Bitdefender's VPN. It has been working prior, but the last 2 days it has not been. The BBC iplayer loads and functions without the VPN active, but enabling the VPN cause the webpage not to load. I used Hotspot Shield to test if it was anything else but the VPN, and I got through as usual using thier service.

I've run a speed check and the broadband speed is as expected. On occasion I've given up with iplayer and switched to watching on my ipad instead without any problems, so I don't think it's a bandwidth problem.

In terms of behaviour, the problems now seem to be starting further back. THe SEN takes an age to load, I can rarely load a programme within iPlayer and can rarely connect to my Mezzmo server through the media player. Performance seems to getting worse rather than better, and I'm unable to use any of the Smart TV functionality on a regular basis - some times it works but more often than not it doesn't!

@mjuparm @haveigotnews @TheRealJackDee @emmanuelstandup @DehennaDavison And I've missed it because my friend wanted to watch the darts. ? And the Internet is not working well enough to let me use iplayer.Ā

@jaguarsglyph @KING0FMYHEARTS i don't have access to a vpn so i can't watch through iplayer so ill have to watch on some site without subtitles but it's fine bc i know exactly what happens at what time i won't have any problemsĀ

@winifer569 Anyone else having issues with @BBCiPlayer @iplayer ?! When I try watch #bbc1 live it just doesn't load anything, been like it for over a day now?! Tried on my phone and apple tv box #bbc #iplayer #brokenĀ

The end result is that tech support were unable to help and it was escalated to Customer Services. The situation is that this is not possible on Sony sets. It is the way that they have ensured you do not have the capability to record catchup programs. You may not have tried it, but you may find that the "red button" features do not work in iPlayer either. They have also barred using the browser app and accessing iPlayer that way whilst recording.

Another strange thing, ...well, something I have not been aware of is that each time "get_iplayert" commences a download session, it creates a file in Windows>Users>Me, called "cmd.exe" containing zero bytes which MBAM jumps on at the next daily scan and quarantine's it as a Trojan!

We have established that each time get_iplayer runs, not when the command window appears, but as soon as a download begins, it creates two files in my "Users" folder, "cmd.exe" and ffmpeg, both zero content!

Thanks for the info, I do indeed use MBAM. Disabling it whilst using get_iplayer fixed it for me too. I guess I have to wait for the update for both to work together, as the update does not yet work for me. Thanks for the solution though !

Hi @Tulit, Sorry it's not working for you, it was just fortunate that MBAM were prepared to get involved despite me being unable to supply evidence that they were causing the problem since I've really no tech knowledge of programming.

Hi @six-H Thanks for your reply mate and I'm delighted to say it's now working! I installed the new version of FFmpeg, but it made no difference. Then I deleted the cmd.exe and ffmpeg files in Users, but I also had another empty file called get_iplayer which I also deleted. It's working fine now. Thanks very much for your help.

iPlayer is becoming unwatchable with buffering issues and poor picture quality. A long long talk with technical support involved disconnecting and reconnecting aerial connections etc etc - all the usual stuff. They were unable to resolve the issue and weren't prepared to replace the box. It's a very poor state of affairs, particularly as I've just renewed the contract....

Very likely this. BBC seem to continually change the iPlayer API, so that it stops working, or becomes flaky on old devices that don't update. I use get_iplayer to download programmes, and it has to regularly be updated when the API changes and breaks it.

* Just checked: AFAICS the last get_iplayer update to accommodate tweaks in the iPlayer API was in June last year (version 3.30). ITV has actually been more disruptive than the BBC since then, withdrawing its free ITV Hub service and replacing it with the hybrid free/paid for ITVX service.

Maybe so, but they still seemed to change the API often enough that plenty of older, but still otherwise perfectly working devices are unable to use iPlayer. That and changing the codecs available, and no longer supporting the lower resolution media streams that some devices use (and are perfectly good enough for). ff782bc1db
