Field Course in Ship-Based Sampling Techniques 

Do you want to learn about Manitoba's river-ocean system and how we sample it? Explore Lake Winnipeg onboard the MV Namao during the ship-based sampling techniques field course this June in Gimli, Manitoba!

Course: Field Course in Ship-based Sampling Techniques (GEOG 4670/ENVR 4000)

Dates: Summer Term, 2025 (Gimli Dates June 14-21, 2025; Laboratory Analyses in Winnipeg June 23-24, 2025)

What will you learn?

·   hands-on learning on a research vessel 

·   riverine, lacustrine, and coastal ocean systems

·   various sampling techniques, observational methods

·   data analysis and presentation

·   scientific writing and data interpretation

Course Information:

·    3 Credits

·    hands-on field experience

·    7 days of in-person learning in Gimli, MB, the home port of the MV NAMAO  

·    3 days of ship-board field sampling on the MV Namao in Lake Winnipeg 

·    Small boat sampling in the Red and Winnipeg rivers

      Field Methods and riverine, lacustrine, and coastal ocean systems
