Abstract:

Sandra Levitsky and Elizabeth A. Armstrong are investigating how 381 American colleges and universities respond to sexual violence. With the assistance of University of Michigan graduate and undergraduate students, we have coded the 2016 sexual misconduct policies, Annual Security Reports and websites of these universities. We plan to engage in a series of qualitative case studies of universities to examine the relationship between policy and practice, and to recollect and recode this information in several year to examine the evolution of university policies. In this presentation, Kamaria Porter and Elizabeth Armstrong will present preliminary results on how universities define sexual consent. We will also describe the data we have to seek input from the audience about what it might be useful to analyze.
