Prior to the end of your rotation, you will need to write 10 multiple choice questions related to ultrasound. These will be presented at the last Image Review of your rotation (the last Monday), but the day may have to be adjusted based on the schedule, so check the calendar. You will also need to either give an ultrasound-based lecture during resident didactics, or, publish an ultrasound case report.
Questions should be presented in PowerPoint format (see below for examples).
Attempt to show ultrasound images on at least half your questions.
You can export export your own images from Qpath into your PowerPoint. (click here for instructions on how to do so)
Multiple choice format is preferred, see samples below.
Email your presentation and questions to Drs. Jackson & Sarani, and Alicia Redeemer White (awhite@kumc.edu), before the end of your rotation.
If you choose to publish a case report, you may choose either a case you have had in the past, a case you had during your rotation, or see if we have a good case report in our archives for you. During your rotation, you will research and write up the case, and must have it submitted by the end of your rotation for publication. Throughout the month, we will meet after Image Review and at other times to work on your write-up and images.
If you choose to give a didactic lecture, you may choose to present on a variety of topics. It can be an Image Review over a single type of study (i.e., cardiac) similar to the lectures given by the ultrasound faculty. It can be a single M&M type case where ultrasound was involved, or perhaps, where it should have been. Or it can be a case series of ultrasound-related encounters.
It will be a 60-minute lecture given during one of the time blocks set up for ultrasound lectures. It is possible that it will be given during the month of your rotation, but also a month or two after, based on availability.
You will periodically show the progress of your presentation and case discovery throughout the month, and we will assist you with case download and PowerPoint integration.
