As a piano teacher, Sancan helped to train the successful pianists Olivier Cazal, Michel Broff, Selman Ada, Abdel Rahman El Bacha, Emile Naoumoff, Gry Moutier, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Daniel Varsano, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Jacques Rouvier, Kristin Merscher, Eric Larsen, Jean-Marc Savelli, and Jean-Philippe Collard who has recorded Sancan's Piano Concerto. Sancan's Sonatine for flute and piano (1946) is his best-known work, and has been a popular staple for flute players since its publication, but little else of his oeuvre is well known. Sancan also composed a Violin Concerto, at least three ballets, a Symphony for Strings (1961), and an opera, Ondine (1962). Some of his shorter piano pieces, such as Bote musique and the Toccata, have caught on as encore pieces.

The Berlin-based Emmanuel Pahud is generally regarded as one of the world's greatest flautists and is most known for his baroque and classical flute repertory.

Blue Shelton (flute), 17, hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he is a senior at Central High School. He studies flute with Susanna Loewy and is a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, the Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth, and the Philadelphia Orchestra Fellowship. When not focusing on flute, Blue enjoys rollerblading, biking, shopping, sculpting, origami, reading, and listening to all kinds of music.

This program of the Piano concerto, orchestral works, works for solo piano, and the flute Sonatine (played by Adam Walker) serves as a personal tribute to Sancan from both pianist and conductor, and will hopefully help to raise awareness of this gifted composer.
