The UHS Debate Club concluded another great debate on January 27, 2025. Thanks to suggestions from Alan Mowle (founder, 12th grader) and Mr. Costello (advisor), the debaters' cordial discussion and rebuttal skills are clearly fine-tuned. The club also offers bi-weekly meetings for students to work on their debating skills, showing the true dedication of its leaders.

The most recent debate was about Homeschooling vs. Public Schooling. The two teams consisted of Kauri, Kristolyn, Naima, Michelle, and Marnell (Team 2) and Eli, Sean, Isaac, Arvind, Miles, and Xavier (Team 6). Homeschooling is a method where parents educate their students at home, and public schools is a method where students physically go to a school and get educated by their teachers. Kristolyn (12th grade) started the debate with strong arguments and great conviction. Mr. Costello & Alan were taking notes as the debaters performed. Xavier (11th grade) then began and led Team 6 with strong dedication; his argument kickstarted the debate.

It’s very astonishing to see the debaters come up with rebuttal arguments within a few minutes that were timed by Mr. Costello. The rebuttals are very well structured and detailed. A remarkable debater was Naima from Team 2, who displayed lots of passion when debating. Congratulations to her for winning this debate's "Member of the Meeting"! This great debate from Team 2’s side led them to a victorious win. Team 2’s introduction, argument, and rebuttals were led by strong debaters who knew what they were talking about. Team 6’s debate was remarkable as well, but after a few sessions with the pros (Costello & Mowle), they will be fine-tuned in no time. The debate was strong, simple, and quite concise. But, it’s all thanks to these wins that put more honor and prestige on UHS Debate Club’s reputation! Until next time, the UHS Debate Club is signing off for now!
