Welcome to the homepage of the Soft robotics And Intelligent machines Laboratory (SAIL) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, directed by Dr. Tianlu Wang. Our lab started its exciting voyage in 2024. We are now seeking graduate students and research assistants to join our multidisciplinary team. About Research @ SAIL

We develop intelligent miniature (millimeter-to-centimeter-scale) soft robotic systems to address real-world challenges of human and ecosystem health in hard-to-reach environments. To achieve this, we leverage and advance small-scale design, fabrication, modeling, actuation, sensing, power, control, and learning strategies to enable effective, reliable, and safe locomotion and functionality.
