Founded in 1992 by Pastors Rudy and Juanita Rasmus, Bread of Life, Inc. began by serving hot meals to Houston's homeless, quickly expanding to offer a broad range of services and support. In partnership with Beyonce's BeyGOOD and Tina Knowles-Lawson, they've conducted anti-hunger initiatives and disaster relief efforts. Nearly three decades later, Bread of Life continues to aid underserved communities in Houston through programs in homelessness, health, hunger relief, and their community radio station KMAZ The Amazing 102.5 FM.
Amazing 102.5 FM, a staple of the Houston community radio scene, is looking for a dedicated and inquisitive Journalist to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for storytelling, a deep interest in local affairs, and a commitment to journalistic integrity. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for researching, writing, and delivering news stories that resonate with and inform our diverse audience. If you're eager to uncover the stories that matter to our community and present them on a platform that truly values local voices, we'd love to have you on board.
Pitch, research, and report on local news stories, including community events, cultural happenings, local government, and human interest features.
Conduct interviews with community leaders, local residents, and other relevant individuals to gather diverse perspectives for your stories.
Write clear, concise, and engaging content for on-air broadcasting and our digital platforms, ensuring all content meets the station’s editorial standards.
Collaborate with the production team to produce audio segments, including scripting and editing audio content.
Stay abreast of local news and events, establishing a network of sources to facilitate timely and accurate reporting.
Adhere to journalistic ethics and standards, ensuring fairness, accuracy, and impartiality in all reporting.
Engage with our audience through social media and other platforms to gather story ideas and feedback.
Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to convey complex information in an accessible and engaging manner.
Excellent research and interviewing skills, with a knack for finding and validating credible sources.
Familiarity with audio editing software and digital content management systems is a plus.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often under tight deadlines.
Knowledge of the local Houston community and its issues is highly desirable.
Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred.
