Organization Description:

Mi Familia Vota (MFV) is a national organization that works to unite and build power in Latino, immigrant and allied communities to advocate for social and economic justice through increased civic engagement. Mi Familia Vota operates as an educational 501 (c)(3) group, Mi Familia Vota Education Fund, and a political 501 (c)(4) group. Since 2006, Mi Familia Vota has been working in Texas and is a recognized leader in engaging the Latino community to become active in the political process.

Primary Function:

MFV Texas Program Interns will be responsible for identifying potential youth leaders and will have the goal of encouraging youth civic engagement, leadership, and empowerment. The intern will be expected to build a relationship with the youth that we will be engaging with, create and present voter education and information sessions, and operate the Mi Familia Vota voter hotline. Additionally, the intern will support at tabling and networking events for the Youth, and Environmental Justice programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work in a fast-paced, cross functional non-profit environment in an internship program focused on developing individual organizers

  • Be involved in the design, development, and facilitation of relevant youth and issue-based programming such as phone/text banking, educational events, monthly workshops, etc.

  • Assist with the identification and recruitment of youth leaders

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community partners, youth leaders and their on-campus organizations

  • Coordinate and lead voter education and registration events for high schools/colleges in Houston and surrounding areas

  • Attend classroom visits

  • Attend any available training opportunities

  • Support the Mi Familia Vota team with other tasks as needed

Preferred qualifications:

  • Leadership experience through extra-curricular activities, employment and/or previous internship experiences

  • Team player with the ability to work closely with the public from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, etc. backgrounds

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • Proactive self-starter and have the courage to take a leadership position to help deliver robust results

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

  • Access to reliable transportation

  • Can work flexible hours and based in Houston, Texas
