BakerRipley is a community-developing nonprofit that provides resources, connection, and education to emerging neighborhoods. At BakerRipley, our impact is targeted towards strengthening community engagement, improving financial well-being, and increasing educational attainment in every community we serve. Working side-by-side with community leaders and residents, we discover their strengths, craft a collective vision and design a plan to make their aspirations a reality. BakerRipley operates 5 community centers and provides services including early childhood education, senior services, adult education and workforce development, and legal support at 70 sites in the Houston area.
Primary Function:
The intern will join the civic engagement team in running a get out the vote (GOTV) effort focused in the communities that BakerRipley has a presence in. Specifically, the intern will be focused on implementing strategies to increase voter turnout among low-propensity voters and increasing the level of political participation in the target neighborhoods.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead canvassing of community members via block-walks, phone-banking, and text messaging
Recruit and retain volunteers in the community who participate in voter contact events
Develop print and social media content to support the campaign and events
Preferred qualifications:
Interest or experience in community engagement, organizing, or political field campaigns
