Classroom Information
Ucon Exterior Doors
In the interest of safety, all Ucon exterior doors except the front double doors are kept locked at all times.
Children may not enter the school by any other means without the permission of an authorized adult. During lunchtime, children must exit the school to the playground through the front double doors.
When lunch recess ends, teachers will open their classroom exterior doors to admit students into class.
During the morning and afternoon recesses, teachers may permit their students to exit and enter the building for recess through their classroom exterior doors. We require all visitors to enter the school through the front doors and always sign in.
Classroom Visit and Messaging Policy
Our classroom visit structure is designed to allow for parent visits, but also to protect and preserve learning, teaching, and teacher prep time.
Impromptu, unscheduled visits to teachers in the classroom between the hours of 7:30 AM-2:35 PM will not be accommodated without a prior appointment. Morning and school day visits must be prearranged with the classroom teacher or through Ms. Harper (208-525-4430).
Impromptu, unscheduled visits to teachers after school dismisses will be accommodated.
Parents may visit their children during lunch anytime. Visits to teachers during lunch require a pre-arranged appointment.
In an emergency, immediate access to your children will be granted.
Parent-student messages received before 11:00 AM will be emailed to the teacher and written on a note placed in the teacher’s mailbox. Parent-student messages received after 11:00 AM will be voiced through the intercom to classrooms beginning at 2:20 PM.
Sometimes important matters between parent-student require classroom intercom or phone calls during instructional time. Office staff will continue to make every effort to minimize those distractions.
Placement of Students
Every teacher and student has unique talents and needs. We will do our best to place your child in the class that will provide the best environment for him/her, while at the same time maintaining balance (behavior, academic, gender) among classes of the same grade level.
Many factors are considered in making this decision: academic, emotional, social, behavioral, and the personal needs of each student are considered by teachers, ancillary staff, the counselor, and the principal when placing children in classes.
Parents may not select teachers or determine classroom placement. However, if parents wish to become involved in the placement process, a letter or email must be sent to the principal on or before the first school day in May.
This letter should describe the educational needs of the child. This information will be considered along with that of staff when placing children into classes.
School personnel cannot guarantee placement with a specific teacher. Parent letters are not considered confidential and are sometimes shared with involved teachers.
