UCD ElecSoc

University College Dublin's Electrical and Electronic Engineering Society

Who are we?

The UCD Electrical and Electronic Society (ElecSoc) was formed in 1990 as a faculty based student society for the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Its initial goal was to be a point of contact for students to engage with companies as they headed out into the workforce.

Over the years and with the assistance of staff, the society transformed into a vibrant and active entity with a presence across campus. The remit of the society now is much broader; making technology more accessible to students and continuing to organise networking opportunities for Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students. A special mention must be given to our Senior Treasurers; previously Professor Tom Brazil, Associate Professor Elena Blokhina, and currently Dr. Paul Cuffe. They have offered great support to committees throughout the years and have been instrumental in the society’s success.

What do we do?

Our Weekly Robotics Club offers students a great opportunity to join projects and use equipment of the Electronics Lab.

Throughout the year, we organise numerous talks relevant to Engineering and Computer Science students. The talks give our members the opportunity to see the cutting edge of today’s technology and innovation.

If your company would like to deliver a talk or a presentation on the work you do, click here.

Several times every year we organise trips to the sites and offices of Engineering & IT companies around Ireland. These trips give our members an opportunity to experience the working atmosphere at different companies, make new connections, and learn about what different companies do.

If your company would like to organise a site/office visit with us for UCD students, click here for more details.

We have over 50 events and 400 members each year

How can you join?

Joining us is very easy, all you need is to be a current student at University College Dublin! There are both undergraduate and postgraduate members in our society, as well as students studying all different sort of courses! If you have passion for technology you don’t need to be studying for an Electrical Engineering or a Computer Science degree.

Why not join us for our next robotics club evening and we’ll get you started!
