É professora aposentada do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos- Unisinos. Sua trajetória acadêmica vincula-se ao campo da Etnomatemática, com enfoque nas dimensões sociais e políticas dos processos educativos. É membro do Grupo Interinstitucional de Pesquisas em Educação Matemática e Sociedade -- GIPEMS.

Has a special interest in critical mathematics education. He has investigated the notions of landscape of investigation, mathematics in action, students’ foreground, and pedagogical imagination. He has been professor at the Department of Education, Learning and Philosophy (now Department of Culture and Learning), Aalborg University, Denmark, but is now retired and is living most of his time in Brazil. PhD 1982 from the Royal Danish School of Educational Studies (mathematics education). Dr.Scient 1995 from Aalborg University.
