University of Arizona JWST Proposal Planning Workshop

Due to the current situation regarding the COVID-19 spread and following the University of Arizona guidelines, we are moving the JWST proposal planning workshop to an online format.

All the talks and sessions are recorded and you may find them in Agenda.

As the JWST Cycle 1 General Observer (GO1) proposal deadline is approaching, we are organizing a proposal planning workshop at University of Arizona on March 16, 2020, followed by a half-day Q&A session on JWST tools on April 6, 2020.

The workshop will provide overviews on the JWST capabilities, instrument modes, help resources, example science cases, and user tools such as APT and ETC.

Registration is free but space-limited. Please register by March 4 at the latest.

Arizona JWST Workshop Series

In parallel to the workshop at UA, two other complementary workshops are being organized in the state of Arizona, at Arizona State University on March 12-13 and at Northern Arizona University on February 18-19. The three workshops are coordinated to cover complementary material. Please refer to the corresponding websites for the programs details.

Workshop Background

This workshop is part of the STScI JWST Proposal Tools Master Class, a 'train the trainers' program. Workshop leads attended a 4.5 day training at STScI in November 2019 in preparation to support their local astronomy communities in submitting JWST General Observer (GO) proposals in Cycle 1 (anticipated deadline May 1, 2020).

Note by STScI: JWST Master class graduates offer a valuable service to their local communities by organizing JWST proposal planning workshops. They help potential proposers find the basic information they need to prepare for JWST, and they facilitate the initial learning process. Graduates are not representatives of STScI, and there is no expectation that they will be able to respond to all inquiries and questions. The final authority for all information about JWST science and the proposal process resides with the JWST Documentation System (JDox), the STScI Help Desk at jwsthelp.stsci.edu, and the JWST science website at jwst.stsci.edu.
