Trapped Under Ice

Trapped Under Ice or TUI as they are often called is a staple in the hardcore scene. The band is from Baltimore, Maryland, and contains several members that are in other major hardcore bands. Trapped Under Ice has released three EPs and three albums since their debut in 2007. The band disbanded in 2013 and reunited in 2015, which was followed two years later in 2017 by the release of the band's album Heatwave. TUI's 2017 release changed the band's sound and brought forth a lighter tone which can be related to bands such as Angel Du$t and Turnstile. Funnily enough, these two other bands share members with Trapped Under Ice. Turnstile features TUI's drummer Brendan Yates as lead vocals; for Angel Du$t the band contains three members from Turnstile followed by Justice Tripp who is the lead singer in both Angel Du$t and Trapped Under Ice. Trapped Under Ice is featured on two different compilation albums, the 2007 Down for the Core Part V featured a song from their demo. Although on the other album, America's Hardcore Compilation Vol. 4 there is a song titled KNOX which is only featured on this compilation album. TUI was signed to Flatspot Records for the release of their Demo in 2007, signed to Reaper Records until 2011, and released their 2017 album Heatwave with Pop Wig Records. The Split EP released by Trapped Under Ice in 2008 was supported by hardcore band Dirty Money from the United Kindom. Released during that same year was Trapped Under Ice's EP titled Stay Cold which features six heavy songs. The band's releases before their break up have a very similar sound to New York hardcore which is extremely heavy and metallic. Big Kiss Goodnight was Trapped Under Ice's final release in 2011 two years before the band's breakup, the project has thirteen songs and spans a little over thirty-three minutes. Big Kiss Goodnight is my favorite release from the band as I feel it does the best job at encapsulating TUI's overall sound, it even features my favorite song off of the band's Demo, Reality Unfolds (The Demo Version Is Better Though). Don't just sit there, break free from under the ice and give them a listen.
