DRAIN is a thrash metal-inspired hardcore band from Santa Cruz, California. The band's lead singer Sammy Ciaramitaro was the drummer in his previous band Gulch. They have released two live albums, one from Axe to Grind in 2019 as well as an Audiotree session this year in 2022 that just occurred only a few weeks ago. Santa Cruz Skateboards set up the recreation of an old Santa Cruz Skateboards magazine cover which featured 80's hardcore band B'LAST being aired over by Rob Roskopp. In this new iteration of the photo, DRAIN would be located below airing Henry Gartland on a Rob Roskopp Santa Cruz Skateboard. Minus their two live EPs DRAIN has only released two, Over Thinking in 2016 followed the next year in 2017 by Time Enough at Last. The artwork for Time Enough at Last is a still from an episode of Twilight Zone also under the name Time Enough at Last. In 2018 and 2019 DRAIN would release their two-song 2018 Promo as well as their first live album which all featured early versions of songs later featured on California Cursed. Around the time of releasing their Promo, the band began using a shark as their mascot which can be found on their merch and album artwork featuring various other sharks. California Cursed was released by Revelation Records although the band's latest single Watch You Burn has been released by Epitaph Records. Along with the single came a music video to back it up, the video features all members of the band as characters in the story. DRAIN supplies explosive energy not only within their songs but the live sets as well. Sadly I have managed to miss DRAIN every time they have come to my area as tickets sell out crazy fast. The band is a current staple in the hardcore scene and definitely deserves the spot they have claimed.
