If you want seamless wireless audio from a 3.5mm jack for mobile gaming or travel, choose Twelve South AirFly SE; if you need an all-in-one blackout solution with built-in speakers for side sleeping and meditation, choose LC-dolida Sleep Mask.
These two products solve fundamentally different problems. One is a connectivity bridge that turns old wired ports into modern Bluetooth streams, while the other is a wearable sleep aid that integrates audio directly into a light-blocking mask. The AirFly SE is a dedicated tool for extending the life of your existing headphones in environments where Bluetooth isn't native. The LC-dolida mask is a complete sleep system designed to replace your pillow setup entirely. Choosing between them depends entirely on whether your priority is connecting to external devices or creating a dark, quiet environment for rest.
• Twelve South AirFly SE: Strengths include over 20 hours of battery life and universal compatibility with any 3.5mm source, but it requires you to already own a pair of Bluetooth headphones to function.
• LC-dolida Sleep Mask: Strengths feature integrated 32mm stereo drivers and total light blocking for side sleepers, but the 16-hour battery is slightly lower than the AirFly's endurance.
• Who each pick is for: The AirFly is for travelers, gamers, and commuters who hate tangled cords; the LC-dolida mask is for insomniacs, side sleepers, and anyone needing a blackout experience without separate hardware.
The Twelve South AirFly SE exists to solve a very specific frustration: the death of the headphone jack. If you are a mobile gamer looking for the best open ear headphones for mobile gaming, or perhaps using the best open ear earbuds for mobile gaming on a device that only has a single 3.5mm port, this adapter is your gateway. It plugs directly into the aux input of airplane seatbacks, hotel TVs, gym treadmills, or older car stereos and instantly converts that analog signal into a digital stream for your favorite wireless buds. I see this as an essential piece of kit for anyone who refuses to carry around clunky wired headphones just because their entertainment source is outdated.
Its design prioritizes portability and ease of use. Weighing just over 13 grams, it is small enough to fit in a pocket or a small pouch without adding bulk. The device supports Bluetooth 5.2 and features aptX technology, which suggests a focus on maintaining high-quality audio transmission even when dealing with compression artifacts common in streaming or lower-bitrate sources. The touch controls allow you to manage volume and playback without fumbling for your phone, which is crucial when you are lying in a dimly lit airplane cabin or trying to adjust settings on a noisy gym machine.

However, this product is not for everyone. You must already own a pair of Bluetooth headphones or earbuds to make this work. If you do not have a compatible headset, the AirFly SE is useless on its own. Furthermore, while it works with many hearing aids, those relying on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or proprietary apps will likely find it incompatible. It is also strictly a transmitter; it cannot receive audio from a phone to send to wired headphones. If your primary goal is simply listening to music without worrying about battery drain or connectivity issues, this might be an unnecessary layer of complexity. But for the specific use case of connecting to non-Bluetooth sources, it is a robust solution that offers over 20 hours of continuous playtime on a single charge.
The LC-dolida Sleep Mask takes a completely different approach by integrating the audio source directly into the eyewear. This is not an accessory you plug into something else; it is a standalone unit designed specifically for people who struggle to sleep due to light or noise. The mask features 3D contoured cups that create a 2.1cm depth around the eyes, allowing you to move your eyes freely without pressing against the fabric. This ergonomic design makes it particularly suitable for side sleepers who often find flat masks uncomfortable or press their ears against the pillow.
The material composition is another key factor here. Made from ice silk fabric with breathable holes, the mask aims to keep the face cool and prevent stuffiness, a common complaint with heavy sleep masks. The integration of Bluetooth 5.4 technology ensures a stable connection range up to 15 meters, which is more than sufficient for moving around a bedroom or sitting in a living room before bed. The built-in 32mm stereo headphones are razor-thin, meaning they sit flush against the head rather than protruding awkwardly. This allows users to listen to white noise, guided meditations, or audiobooks while the mask blocks out 100% of the light, creating a sanctuary regardless of whether they are in a bright hotel room or a shared apartment.
The trade-off is that you are limited to the audio quality and battery life of the mask itself. While the 16-hour battery life is impressive and covers multiple nights of use, it falls slightly short of the AirFly's 20+ hour claim. Additionally, because the speakers are embedded in the fabric, you cannot easily swap them out for higher-end headphones if you prefer a different sound signature. This product is ideal for individuals suffering from insomnia, anxiety, or those who are sensitive to snoring partners. It effectively blocks out light and provides a consistent audio environment, making it a strong contender for anyone seeking a dedicated sleep aid rather than a general-purpose audio adapter.

In my opinion, if I were forced to choose one for a scenario involving mobile gaming, I would pick the Twelve South AirFly SE. The ability to connect my preferred wireless earbuds to a Switch or a laptop with a single jack gives me far more flexibility and better audio fidelity than the fixed drivers in a sleep mask. However, if my primary goal was to block out light and snoring for a good night's rest, the LC-dolida mask becomes the clear winner. Ultimately, these two items serve different masters: one is a tool for connectivity, and the other is a tool for rest. For the average user who wants to extend the life of their current gear across various devices, the AirFly SE is the smarter investment.
