How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.
If you want a wired, plug-and-play headset with a flip-to-mute boom mic that works on PlayStation, Xbox, PC and mobile, choose Turtle Beach Recon 70; if you need a wireless headset with a long battery, 2.4GHz low-latency gaming and Bluetooth for everyday listening, choose WESEARY Gaming Headset.
• Turtle Beach Recon 70 — biggest strength: a simple 3.5mm wired connection plus a high-sensitivity boom mic that flips up to mute. No dongles, no pairing, no charging.
• Turtle Beach Recon 70 — biggest trade-off: it's wired only and has no Bluetooth, so you're tethered to whatever you plug into and there's no battery to fall back on.
• WESEARY Gaming Headset — biggest strength: dual-mode wireless (2.4GHz USB dongle + Bluetooth 5.4) with up to 50 hours of battery life and larger 50mm drivers.
• WESEARY Gaming Headset — biggest trade-off: no Xbox support in either mode, the mic doesn't work over Bluetooth on Switch, and Bluetooth mode won't work with PS5 or PS4.
• Pick the Recon 70 if you game across many platforms, want zero setup, and care most about a mic that's always ready.
• Pick the WESEARY if you want wireless freedom, long sessions without charging, and one headset for gaming plus music and calls.
The Recon 70 is the "just works" option. It's a wired over-ear headset with a 3.5mm jack, 40mm dynamic drivers, a 20Hz–20kHz frequency range and 160-ohm impedance. There's an on-ear volume dial and a mic that flips up and out of the way to mute. That flip-to-mute design is the detail I keep coming back to: muting is a physical gesture you can do mid-sentence, not a software toggle you have to hunt for in a menu.
Comfort is clearly the other priority. It's a lightweight design — the listed weight is 13.44 ounces for the package — with synthetic leather-wrapped ear cushions and a padded headband. The closed, leather-style cushions help isolate outside noise and add bass response, which matters if you game in a shared room or near a fan or AC unit. It also supports spatial audio formats including Sony 3D Audio on PS5, Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos and DTS Headphone:X, with the usual caveat that some of those need extra purchases, app downloads or supported hardware.
WESEARY Gaming Headset: Who It's For
The WESEARY is built around wireless convenience. It runs two ways: a 2.4GHz USB dongle mode for PS5, PS4, PC, phone, laptop, Switch and Mac, and Bluetooth 5.4 for PC, Mac, Switch, mobile, laptops and tablets. You switch modes by pressing the mic button for two seconds. The 2.4GHz mode is rated at ≤20ms latency and Bluetooth at <48ms, which is the difference between audio that feels in sync with your inputs and audio that feels slightly behind them.
The spec sheet is genuinely ambitious for the category. It has 50mm dynamic drivers — larger than the Recon 70's 40mm — with a 20Hz–20kHz range and 32-ohm impedance, which generally makes it easier to drive. Battery life is rated up to 50 hours without lighting and up to 35 hours with the dynamic LED lighting on, from a 1200mAh battery, with a 2.5-hour USB-C charge. The mic is a 360° omnidirectional design with noise-cancelling tech and single-click mute.
There are real limits, and you should read them before buying. It does not work with Xbox in any mode. The microphone is not available over Bluetooth on Switch. Bluetooth mode does not work with PS5 or PS4, and for PS5, PS4, PC, laptop and Mac you must use the 2.4GHz USB transmitter and the Type-C connection together — the dongle can't be used alone. It comes with the headset, the transmitter, a Type-C charging cable and a manual, and WESEARY includes a one-year warranty.
Who should buy it? Wireless-first gamers on PlayStation or PC who want long battery life, low-latency 2.4GHz play, and Bluetooth for music and calls between sessions. Who should skip it? Xbox players, and anyone who wants a mic on Switch over Bluetooth or wants the simplicity of a single cable.
Side-by-Side: Which Should You Choose?
• Best for console flexibility (including Xbox) → Turtle Beach Recon 70. The 3.5mm jack covers PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and mobile. The WESEARY doesn't support Xbox at all.
• Best for battery life → WESEARY Gaming Headset. Up to 50 hours without lighting, up to 35 with it, from a 2.5-hour USB-C charge.
• Best for low-latency competitive play → WESEARY Gaming Headset. ≤20ms on the 2.4GHz dongle is its headline number for reaction-critical games.
• Best for zero-setup, always-ready voice chat → Turtle Beach Recon 70. Flip the mic up to mute, flip it down to talk. No mode switching, no pairing, no charging.
• Best for bigger drivers and a wider soundstage → WESEARY Gaming Headset. 50mm dynamic drivers versus 40mm on the Recon 70.
• Best for shared rooms and noise isolation → Turtle Beach Recon 70. Synthetic leather-wrapped cushions and closed over-ear isolation.
• Best for style and a lit-up setup → WESEARY Gaming Headset. One-touch dynamic LED lighting is a feature the Recon 70 simply doesn't have.
In my opinion, the safer buy for most people is the Turtle Beach Recon 70. It works on more platforms, including Xbox, and the flip-to-mute mic plus on-ear volume means voice chat is always one motion away — no pairing, no mode juggling, no battery anxiety. I'd only steer you to the WESEARY Gaming Headset if wireless is the priority: you play on PlayStation or PC, you want up to 50 hours of battery and 2.4GHz low-latency audio, and you'll actually use Bluetooth for music and calls. If Xbox is in your setup, the choice makes itself.
how to use headphones with microphone
Plug the headset into a 3.5mm jack and it's live — that's the Recon 70's whole setup, and its mic mutes when flipped up. The WESEARY needs the 2.4GHz USB transmitter and Type-C connected together for PS5, PS4, PC, laptop and Mac, or a Bluetooth pairing for PC, Mac, Switch, mobile and tablets.
how to test headset with microphone
Speak into the mic while watching your platform's input meter or recording a short clip, then play it back. On the Recon 70, flip the mic down to unmute and check the on-ear volume dial. On the WESEARY, confirm you're in the right mode first — 2.4GHz or Bluetooth — then use the single-click mic mute to verify it toggles.
how to headset microphone
Set it as your default input in your console or PC audio settings, then adjust input gain if your platform offers it. The Recon 70's high-sensitivity mic is designed to pick up your voice clearly with the boom in front of your mouth; the WESEARY's 360° omnidirectional mic uses noise cancellation to reduce background sound.
