Privacy Policy for TuneShift - Pitch & Key Changer for YouTube
Last updated: October 26, 2026
1. Overview
TuneShift is designed to adjust the pitch, key, and playback rate of audio on YouTube in real time. We believe in complete transparency and user privacy: TuneShift does not collect, sell, or transmit any personal data or browsing activity. All audio processing and settings persistence occur locally on your machine.
2. Information We Handle
Audio Data: When enabled, TuneShift captures tab audio solely to apply real-time pitch shifting and key analysis via local Web Audio APIs / WebAssembly. Audio streams are processed entirely inside your browser and are never recorded, saved, or sent over any network.
User Preferences (chrome.storage.local): TuneShift saves your local interface preferences (e.g., semitone shifts, fine-tuning cents, and your "remember pitch" toggle) directly on your device. This data remains on your browser and is never synced or shared with external servers.
3. Permissions & Why We Need Them
tabCapture & activeTab: Used strictly to capture audio from the active YouTube tab and feed it through the local pitch-shifting engine when you open the popup.
offscreen: Required under Manifest V3 to run the local audio processing worklet and real-time audio analysis.
storage: Used solely to retain your pitch-shifting preferences locally on your computer across sessions.
Host Permissions (*://*[.youtube.com/](https://.youtube.com/)*): Required exclusively to observe YouTube's single-page navigation and apply or maintain pitch settings per video.
4. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, trade, or transfer any user information to third parties. We do not use remote scripts, telemetry, or external trackers.
